Example: Talybolion Community Pantry

The Talybolion Community Pantry aims to provide residents with essential items like food, toiletries, and household supplies to help ease the impact of the rising cost of living. The pantry will operate on a “take what you need, give what you can” model, ensuring everyone has access to necessities without stigma. With a budget of £2,000, this project will establish and stock a centrally located pantry, easily accessible to all Talybolion residents.

The funds will be allocated as follows:

  1. Initial Stock of Essentials: £1,200 for an initial supply of non-perishable food items, toiletries, baby supplies, and household basics. These items will be available for residents in need, with a focus on high-demand essentials such as canned goods, rice, pasta, soaps, and hygiene products.
  2. Pantry Setup and Maintenance Supplies: £400 to purchase shelving, bins, and signage for organizing and displaying items in a user-friendly, welcoming way. This includes setting up a weatherproof, secure cabinet or shed if outdoor placement is needed.
  3. Community Awareness and Outreach: £200 for flyers, posters, and social media campaigns to inform residents about the pantry and encourage community contributions. This will promote the pantry’s use and foster a sense of community involvement.
  4. Volunteer Coordination and Supplies: £200 to equip volunteers with necessary supplies like gloves, cleaning materials, and organizing tools. Volunteers will oversee the pantry, monitor stock, and ensure it remains clean and accessible.

The pantry will be set up in a central location or local business willing to host it, ensuring it’s easy to access for anyone in need. We will also encourage residents to donate items when possible, allowing the pantry to become a sustainable, community-supported resource.

Why the contribution is important

With the rising cost of living, many Talybolion residents are struggling to afford basic necessities. The Talybolion Community Pantry will provide immediate, practical support by offering free essential items, reducing financial stress for families and individuals facing hardship. The pantry also creates an opportunity for the community to come together, with those who can donate helping to support those in need, fostering solidarity and mutual support.

By providing relief for everyday expenses, this project will help improve well-being, reduce financial stress, and build a stronger, more resilient community. With community support, the pantry has the potential to grow and remain sustainable beyond the initial funding.
