Amlwch All Abilities

Amlwch All Abilities is a group that has been established to provide inclusive support for everyone in North Anglesey.

We are a successful and continues to grow and develop with members. The group meet every Monday at the Willam Williams VC lounge in Amlwch between 1pm - 4pm. The group also arrange outings, such as Christmas pantomimes.

The key aspect of our group is to ensure that local people, regardless of age, abilities, socio-demographic backgrounds can attend and enjoy each others' company whilst undertaking activities at each session.

Our group emphasises the importance of access to all, fun and inclusitivity at each session. Fun, giggles and socialising is a key success for our group.

Our group is managed by trustees that are parents / siblings of adults with learning disabilities of whom deeply understand some of the inequalities that people can face in society today.

We work cohesively with other partners, including our County Council, local groups and the police.

Our group is mainly funded by fundraising and we do this through bingos. We have also succeeded with the recent Community Cohesion funding in 2023.

We socalise, care for each other, ensure everyone feels included and enjoys the warmth of our weekly sessions.

Some of our members have a learning disability or struggle with their mental wellbeing or struggle with loneliness and isolation - we address this through our inclusive approaches

Our plan with this funding would be to;

- continue with our group through providing fun and engaging activities at each session. This includes craft resources, paying for facilitators and paying for animals to visit our session (we recently had alpacas with us which was fantastic!)

- purchase of soups from local catering providers, particularly during the winter months where cost of living has substantially increased within households and therefore members would have access to a healthy warm meal.

- support towards the costs of our trips (some of our members are financially support by welfare and therefore cannot always afford to pay for trips outside of our area)

- marketing and promotion - cost of leaflets and posters to attract new members and ensure our members and carers are continually aware of our sessions.

Why the contribution is important

We are inclusive, non discriminatory and celebrate all abilities

Anyone can join and attend - they don't need to be from Amlwch

We are community led and developed. What we deliver on is what our members want.

To sustain our group longer term through this funding.

As we age, our ablities will change. We will adapt to achieve this change

We support each other and giggle / have fun at each of our sessions

We work closely with various partners and enrich the level of knowledge and skills our members have

Research suggests that people with a learning disability have fewer chances to take part in leisure activities or socialise with their peers, and so may have fewer friends. Our group addresses this challenge.

We provide inclusion that involves making meaningful connections and participation in fulfilling activities

Carers attend and they also report to enjoy our setting and activities.

Reduce health inequalities through peer to peer support alongside having carers that can support other carers in attendance.
