Cooking skills for children and young people
We have started on a journey to develop community cooking skills for children and young people, specifically cooking on a budget. This is not available within our ward and we're keen to attract further funding in order to arrange further workshops, aimed at the children and young people of our ward. We normally operate for Amlwch and direct surrounds, such as Bull Bay and Llaneilian, however for this project we will expand to cover the full ward area.
The sessions will cover 6 weeks of cooking from basics through to making meals, using affordable foods to achieve our cooking on a budget requirement.
The sessions will cover evenings, weekends and school holidays. Up to x 6 young people can attend each cohort.
The funding will cover 4 x cohorts and funding will cover the cost of facilitators and food.
The workshps will be delivered at local settings - these will be confirmed if funding is approved
Why the contribution is important
To improve cooking skills, which is a basic life requirement
To reduce the use of processed foods longer term
To support parents and families through our local children and young people having the skills to support cooking for the household.
Engagement of our young population in researching tasty and affordable meals as ideas for each session - being able to contribute based on their personal colinary preferences
Influence community growing in order to reduce household food shopping costs
In an era where there are more households affected by cost of living, reducing associated costs of purchasing take aways will improve household financial situations
Cooking balanced meals with good nutritional values
Peer to peer support and fun!
